Thoughts of a geisha movie watcher
As with any "movie based on a novel by..." the book was much better. The details that make the book such a thrill to read are passed over in the movie, making it a sort of let-down for those of us who read and loved the novel. Independant of the novel, this is a great movie. I'm sure I'll watch it again...several times maybe even. If I were to describe the movie (and the novel come to think of it) in one word (which I'm about to do right now), I'd describe it as beautiful.

just a heads-up re your kitchen tunes
Pearl Jam's greatest hits is out now in a two volume release. Lesser known hits like "Yellow Ledbetter" are included.
And, I still haven't signed up for Memoirs of a Geisha and I read a bad review--the person said the movie was so heavy on dialogue it wasn't until almost the end he found out it was a love story. Or was that Snow Falling on Cedars. hmmm....

Wheee.... "Memoirs" was total eye candy. Especially the part where she dances the lead... I sat there, absolutely mesmerized. I thought they did a nice job- kept in most of the important content from the book.

I saw the movie but haven't read the book yet. I actually liked the movie but was a little weirded out by the relationship between the Chairman and the lead. He basically groomed his concubine.
