Updated Fall 2010: So I make lists. I also strike things off. Just maybe not in the originally planned time frame. *clears throat and moves on*
My 2 year-old will start Montessori School this summer after being home with me since the day he was born. I'm going through all the expected emotions and anxieties associated with that, but mostly I'm excited for him. I also excited for me because I finally get to have real time off to start and complete projects that I've been meaning to get to an to explore options for the next chapter of my life, which will definitely include more babies (sooner than later) and any number of awesome opportunities to go back into my professional field (Market Research) on MY terms. But enough about that.
You're on this page to see a list, and see a list you shall. I'll strike through/blog about the items as they are accomplished. (Thanks to FunkyDivaGirl for the inspiration.)
In no particular order, this summer, I plan to:
- Start taking Pilates classes
- Print pictures for photo albums (Honeymoon, baby's first 2 years, house parties, trips, etc. are all digital.)
- Practice acoustic guitar regularly
- Buy and learn to play a ukulele
- Bake the vegan, gluten-free, dairy free, soy free bread for my allergic son. (Got all the ingredients like 2 weeks ago!)
- Donate/sell anything I own that's not being used
- Plant succulent gardens in empty pots in my house (There are many pretty pots around here)
- Complete herb garden in kitchen windows
- Grow container veggies (at least tomatoes)
- Take first official family vacation with the boy (Previous trips to visit friends/family don't count. Just us three.) We went to San Diego and it was awesome!
- Figure out what to do with my Youtube page, and do it.
- Host a party for a charity. My peeps showed up and donated over 200 bottles of shampoo, conditioner, hair products and suits to Dress For Success Austin. Yeah!
- *sigh* Reluctantly, I list this: Lose more weight. (it is what it is)
- Get the many square feet of grout on the floors throughout my house cleaned and sealed
- Finish and touch-up interior home painting jobs
- Got to matinees as much as possible
- Start writing (a short story, novella, novel--anything to get my creative writing mojo back)
- Design my son's new big boy room (making mental room for yet-unconceived baby number 2)
- Jog I'm training for my first 5k--October 2010!
- Wear shorts
- Expand my son's and my Spanish vocabulary. (He'll begin formal classes next spring.)
- Take the new Austin commuter train downtown
- Get my third tattoo (technically my fourth since the last one consists of two butterflies)
- Update my resume
- Hire myself out for contract work in my field (market research)
- Go to the dentist (It's been a while and I'm going for a second round of braces--haven't worn my retainer in about 10 years and my teeth are on the move.)
- Replace glasses that my son broke then I lost about 2 years ago (Yes, I have been blind as long.
- Plan/price Zack's bathroom face-lift
- Plan/price Kitchen face-lift project
- Plan/price backyard face-lift project
Bonus Thing: Learn to knit
Excited about #28-30 because I HEART seeing my house decorating plans come together. Looking forward to a busy and productive </strike>summer</strike> time!

I can understand the excitement of having time to do adult things or just having time to complete simple tasks. Oh how I cherish those moments. However, you feel a little sad too because your little one is away. Your mind constantly wonders if they're ok, what they're doing and if they are crying for you.
Such is the life of a MOM!! Gotta love it. And I've already taken to selling stuff I'm not using and don't need anymore on Ebay. Nothing like making a few extra tax free dollars. Tried to start a garden but all this 100 degree weather has cooked my seedlings to a crisp. I'll try again next year.

I am loving your summer list. Now I want to make one. One thing on that list was to take a dance class. I just started last week and am loving it. But I will have to take a cue from you and make a summer list. Love your ideas and love your blog!

YUMMommy, I am seriously considering figuring out ho to use ebay and doing it.
SLY, Thank you! I've made some progress on this list. Now that I have more time, I need to blog about it and get to checking things off!

What a great idea for a list!! I like how you gave yourself the whole summer! (though I'm not seeing any strikethroughs...?? ;)
I might make a winter list - winter's can be pretty blah (especially when there isn't enough snow to be pretty, but enough to get slushy and muddy from all the cars... so not excited about that).
I am visiting from SITS through the back to blogging challenge. Your post was really honest - very brave of you, I admire that.
I will make sure to link you to my winter list if I make one :)

Thanks for visiting and for the compliment on my re-post. :)
