I'm making this for my husband. I hope it comes out as cool-looking as it does on the Ravelry page I found the pattern on. It's way too simple to make. Fortunately, my husband thinks it's a cool look and is happy to proudly wear my creations. Trust me, this one is the first on many.

It was too easy. I am so going to knit these in every color and find excuses to wear them daily.
As usual, I looked at a few patterns to determine what kind of yarn I wanted to use, and how many cast ons I'd need to achieve the look I wanted. With a worsted weight yarn, and size 7 and size 10 circular needles, here's what I ended up doing...
CO 88 stitches onto the smaller needles and join in the round. Add a stitch marker.
Rim
K2, P2 in the round, slipping the marker as you go until your rim is as long as you want it to be. Mine is about an inch long @ 10 rows.
Knit two rows, picking up two more stitches at the end of the second row, so you have 90 stitches.
Purl the next row, switching to the larger needles.
Pattern
Knit one row.
Purl one row.
Knit 10 rows.
Repeat sequence until hat is desired length. I wanted extra slouch, so mine is about 10 inches long.
Decrease
On a purl row, *P2Tog, P7. Repeat * one round
Next row, Knit one round
Next row, *P2Tog, P6. Repeat * one round
Knit 5 rounds
Next row *K2tog, K2. Repeat *one round
Next row *K2tog, K1. Repeat *one round
Next row K2tog one round, then cut yarn leaving about a 5 inch tail.
Use tapestry needle to pull the tail through remaining stitches.
Knot it and weave in ends.

Using a combination of patterns I found on Ravelry.com, I created this super-warm hat and cowl for my sister, who lives in West Virginia. I think it's still pretty warm there, as it is everywhere else this winter, but this should do the trick on her coolest night out.
These items were both knit on size 11, 16" circular needles using Lion Brand Wool Ease Quick & Thick yarn in Lemongrass. I made the hat in the morning and the cowl in the afternoon. The pattern is a basic rib trim and stockinette stitch body. The lace pattern on the hat is as follows: Row 1: K2, YO, KKS Row 2: YO, KKS, K2. Repeat as many times as you like to achieve the look you want.

So, in my last post, you guys got to see the mess I made of my first attempt to make an adult-sized hat. I hope you will agree that my second attempt was successful. I'm not thrilled about my color choice, but am excited that second time was a charm. :-)

This was supposed to be a nice, fitted, over-sized knit hat with a nice brim. I used yarn that was super-bulky, instead of bulky, as required in the pattern, and I increased the number of cast-on's to fit a larger head of natural hair. This was my first attempt at using circular needles and as making an adult-sized hat. FAIL.
I'm currently working on a redo, following the pattern to the letter. Wait until you see what this floppy hat was supposed to look like. Photos of the redo coming soon...

I resolve to knit my way through my whole stash before purchasing any more yarn. I don't have a log of exactly what I have, but this bin is pretty big and it is packed. There are also two tote bags that aren't shown in the photo. I need to spend some time on Ravelry to get some ideas and get more projects underway!

I totally didn't use a specific pattern and winged it on the decreases, based off practice and estimated measurements, which I hope were correct. They're for a new, 2 month old baby. The multi-colored one on the left is made with a beautiful thick and thin yarn, which is why the texture s so funky. The pink and brown one on the right is my favorite of the two. I'm learning how to make pom poms on Youtube, the same way I learned to knit in the first place. I could still use some practice, but I am too excited about how easily these two projects came together. I knitted them in 1 (left) and 2(right) hours! *pops collar*

So I've decided to start this series to keep me knitting (so selfish, I know) and to encourage my fellow e-knitters to do the same. Each Er...On any given crafty Monday, I'll share a project--completed or in progress. A good bit of my projects will be knitting, but I flex my other craft bones from time to time. Please feel free to share links to any crafty project you're into as well! Whenever I figure out how to work a linky, I'll add that feature so we can see thumbnails of your projects too!
Based on several patterns I've seen online, I'm making this super-long, super-stretchy scarf using a size 13 needle with bulky yarn that is meant for a size 9. By increasing the size of the needle, this beautiful pattern is stretched out a bit and takes on a more textured look. Roughly, the pattern goes something like this...
CO 27 stitches
First End:
Rows 1-3: K3, P3 rib pattern
Rows 4-6: P3, K3 rib pattern
Repeat alternating pattern until you reach the desired length for your end.
Scarf Knit Pattern:
Row 1: K3, P3 *repeat
Row 2: K1, P1 *repeat
Repeat scarf knit pattern until you reach the desired length.
Second End:
Repeat First End pattern.
The end.
I hope that made since. I'm a year into teaching myself to knit. One day, I will read a proper manual and learn all the proper jargon. Maybe. Do you knit? What are you making today?

Although it's still 80 degrees down here in Texas, I'm busy knittng scarves again this year. I've been taking cell phone pics and uploading them to my personal Facebook page. My good camera broke, so until I get an newer fancier one, I hope you don't mind the casual quality of the photos of my projects. This is what I'm working on at he moment. I just finished the grey infinity scarf as a gift for my mom and have also made my first sale to a customer in Boston! I'm not set up to do any e-commerce yet, but soon come!

After many months of not knitting a thing, I recently knitted my first bear. I found out a friend of mine was expecting and I knew I wanted to make something special for her. I had a great idea to knit an ethno-centric blanket, but couldn't decide on a design. Then I decided to knit her new baby a bear. Nothing about me is cookie-cutter, so there was no way I was going to make a cute brown bear wearing a pink or blue scarf. No way.
I ran across this awesome pattern for an easy-knit teddy bear and got to work figuring out how I'd make the design my own. I have always loved the look of South African Ndebele dolls, and thought I'd experiment with giving a teddy bear, Ndebele doll flair. The colors for his clothing had to be bright and true like the ones in an 8 box of Crayola crayons. Something resembling a cross between a scarf and gold ring necklace to adorn his neck and his face had to be equal parts Ndebele doll and teddy bear. Once the idea was clear, the execution was as easy as pie.
Isn't he lovely?! He certainly got my three year-old son's snuggle of approval. The day I made his face, my son came home from school and pretended to talk to him immediately. He asked him to join him on the ottoman to watch Speed Racer. That is when I knew my weird little bear was absolutely perfect.
